From February 15–17, 2026, the Canadian Neurodevelopmental Research Training Platform (CanNRT) convened the Network of Networks Retreat in Wendake, Québec, bringing together leaders, trainees, and partners from across Canadian and international research networks (see Retreat Programme and Network Profiles).
Designed as a working retreat, the gathering created space to examine how networks can better connect, coordinate, and contribute to a more collaborative and impactful neurodevelopmental research ecosystem.
This report presents a synthesis of what we heard. It brings together key insights from discussions across sessions, including emerging priorities in research, training, knowledge mobilization, and system-level coordination. It also reflects the perspectives of trainees, who played an active role in shaping the conversations and identifying future directions.
Across discussions, a clear message emerged: advancing neurodevelopmental research requires not only scientific progress, but stronger, more connected systems grounded in collaboration, lived experience, and shared responsibility.
The findings and recommendations outlined in this report reflect a collective effort to move from dialogue to action, with a focus on building a more coordinated, inclusive, and sustainable research landscape in Canada and beyond.
