Overview
Award Amount: $10,000 for one year during the 2027–2028 IMPaCT training cycle, plus access to learning and professional development opportunities through IMPaCT. These include hands-on clinical trial experience, mentorship, and support to attend the IMPaCT Summit and CanNRT Annual Summer School.
Number of Awards: One joint CanNRT–IMPaCT training award is available.
Eligible Career Stages: Doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows.
Project Focus: The proposed clinical trial must focus on neurodevelopmental or associated conditions and meet IMPaCT’s eligibility requirements for pediatric or perinatal clinical trials.
Location: Canada-wide. The award must be held at a Canadian academic institution, research institute, or hospital affiliated with a Canadian university. Training includes virtual programming and required in-person activities.

About the Fellowship
IMPaCT training awards offer a one-year learning experience that combines mentorship, practical training, and defined program deliverables.
The program prepares researchers to design, conduct, and communicate about high-quality, patient-centred, and equitable clinical trials involving babies, children, youth, and people who are pregnant, postpartum, or planning to become pregnant.
Through this joint award, CanNRT will support one doctoral student or postdoctoral fellow developing a new clinical trial focused on neurodevelopmental or associated conditions.
The partnership combines IMPaCT’s clinical trials curriculum and mentorship model with CanNRT’s national training community and focus on neurodevelopmental research.
The successful applicant will:
- Receive $10,000 to support their full participation in the IMPaCT program
- Work with a three-person mentorship team that includes academic, youth, and parent mentors
- Develop a funding-ready proposal for a new pediatric or perinatal clinical trial
- Build skills in trial design, engagement, operations, and communication
- Access hands-on experiential learning and professional development opportunities
- Attend the IMPaCT Summit for professional development and national networking
- Attend the CanNRT Annual Summer School as their required immersive learning experience
- Connect with researchers, mentors, trainees, and community partners across Canada
Applications may be submitted in English or French. The IMPaCT curriculum is delivered in English.
