Shaping the future of neurodevelopment research through collaboration

The Canadian Neurodevelopmental Research Training (CanNRT) platform has launched its curriculum co-design process, bringing together trainees, mentors, and community partners to shape a high-quality, multidisciplinary curriculum. This community-partnered approach ensures the program responds to the needs of future neurodevelopment researchers while directly addressing priorities identified by individuals and families in the community.

In a 2023 video, committee members share their vision for an inclusive curriculum that evolves with scientific advancements and real-world perspectives.

A community partnership in action

The Curriculum Co-Design Committee has begun consultations and collaborative development of curriculum content with trainees, researchers, clinicians, and community representatives.

By actively involving stakeholders from the outset, CanNRT is creating a dynamic curriculum that remains responsive to emerging science and the living and lived experiences of those it ultimately aims to serve.

Empowering trainees to shape their learning

A defining feature of this co-design process is the opportunity for trainees to actively influence their own learning experience. Rather than a top-down curriculum, CanNRT’s trainees work together with mentors and community partners to identify important topics, skills, and perspectives to include. This collaborative design means the curriculum will reflect both current research developments and practical insights from the community. It not only prepares trainees with diverse, pertinent knowledge, but also instills a sense of ownership and engagement in their education.
